Norwegian Cruise Line notified guests on June 1, 2026, that Norwegian Viva's 7-night departures from San Juan, Puerto Rico, between November 1, 2027, and January 23, 2028, are cancelled. The cruise line cited port availability as the reason, without specifying further details.
Instead of operating its planned Southern Caribbean program from Puerto Rico, the 3,195-passenger ship will relocate to Port Miami and run shorter Bahamas itineraries that include calls at Great Stirrup Cay, NCL's private island currently undergoing expansion. Guests who wanted San Juan-based sailings are being directed to Norwegian Prima, Viva's Prima-class sister ship, which will continue operating similar roundtrip Caribbean itineraries from Puerto Rico.
NCL is offering affected passengers a full refund plus a future cruise credit equal to 10 percent of the original fare, applicable to any published sailing through December 31, 2028. The credit becomes available starting June 8, 2026. Guests who do nothing will be automatically refunded without further action required.
The move is notable because it affects the lucrative winter 2027-28 season, a period cruise lines typically fill well in advance. Travel advisors and booked passengers who built flights and hotels around a San Juan homeport will need to replan entirely.
