Royal Caribbean Group and the Alaska Railroad Company officially opened the Dale R. and Carol Ann Lindsey Alaska Railroad Terminal in Seward on June 10, 2026. The facility, described as the largest and most innovative cruise terminal in Alaska, replaces dock infrastructure dating to the mid-1960s and is designed to handle Quantum-class ships carrying up to 4,100 passengers.
The $137 million project was financed through Alaska Railroad Corporation revenue bonds, which Royal Caribbean will pay down over 30 years via a usage agreement guaranteeing at least 140,000 guests to Seward each Alaska season. Ovation of the Seas became the first ship to homeport at the new terminal, splitting one-way seven-night itineraries between Vancouver and Seward.
The pier also includes a shore power system developed through a U.S. EPA Clean Ports Grant, letting ships plug in rather than run engines at berth, and excess winter power will feed backup electricity to the wider Seward community. The terminal doubles as Seward's largest indoor gathering space during the off-season, hosting sports, concerts, and community events.
